FAQ Frequently Asked Questions on PAN Card Application

  1. Please ensure that you submit a clear passport copy. In particular the name, picture & signature must be clearly legible.
  2. Due to Corona lock down hard copy PAN card dispatch from govt. will be delayed. During this time you can submit only PAN number or a copy of E-PAN. The person / authority can verify your PAN details themselves by clicking here
  3. The financial services industry has made big strides in improving the authenticity of recorded information. It is no longer acceptable to have different names in PP, PAN, Voters ID etc. Fathers name is also required to be exactly the same in all ID's and must be spelt out fully (no abbreviations allowed). Many financial institutions, property transfer registrars etc now flatly refuse to accept documents which are not consistent with each other. (Tip: please remember your PP is your primary ID. Ensure that all other secondary ID's such as licenses, PAN, Voters ID etc match your primary ID 100%. If not you will face difficulties in future)
  4. In case of rejection by IT department, the documents are returned with advice requesting additional information / requesting modifications. IT department rejections are outside our control. You will be notified of the same.
  5. The IT department directly dispatches PAN cards to applicants given address. Overseas this is either through post or by private courier. In case it is by post, the applicant is often required to visit the local post office to collect it. If it is by private courier, the same is often delivered to applicants doorstep. It is the IT departments discretion which service to employ i.e. post or private courier. In India PAN cards are usually delivered by Indian Postal Service. Please ensure that your address / house is open and accessible to the post person. If your house is locked etc the card may be returned to IT Dept. Please note that in India the post person will not call you on the mobile if the house is closed. We recommend that you track your delivery online regularly. If your address is going to be locked, please leave a notice on the door asking the postman to leave his name and number, so that the card can be collected later in the day from him/post office. Similarly for overseas clients uncollected cards will be returned. All returned cards (in India or overseas) will be destroyed by IT dept to prevent misuse and fresh application will need to be submitted again.
